Masala Dosa


For Dosa Batter

Raw rice-2 cups

Urad daal-1 cup

Fenugreek seeds – a pinch

Cooked Rice-1 cup



For Masala filling

Potato-1 big

Onion-1 small chopped

Ginger-1 inch

Green chilli-1 no

Urad daal-1/4 tsp

Mustard seeds-1/4 tsp

Curry leaves-a few

Turmeric-1/4 tsp





For preparing filling boil potato and peel and mash it.Heat oil in a kadai and splutter mustard seeds.Add urad daal and curry leaves.Add the chopped onion and saute till soft.Add ginger and green chilli and saute for sometime.Add turmeric and mashed potatoes and mix it well.Add some water and cook it for 2 mins.Keep it aside.

Wash and soak first three ingredients overnight and grind into a fine batter.Keep it 8 hours for it to ferment.If the batter is thick add some water to make it smooth and add some salt.

Heat a non-stick tava.When hot pour a ladle full of batter and spread it in a circular motion to make thin dosa.Add some ghee or coconut oil.Spread the filling over it and cook for 1 min.Serve with chutney and sambar.

Onion Chutney


Onion-1 medium diced

Tomato-1small chopped

Red chilli-1 or 2 nos



Heat oil and fry the red chilli till brown(take care not to burn).Fry onions till soft.Add tomato and saute till its done.

Cool it and grind this fried mixture to a paste with salt(Water is not needed).
